Government Rebate for Solar Power is being phased out from next year!

The Clean Energy Regulator recently announced that the STC Solar Rebates currently subsidising solar power systems will be phased out starting in 2017! This means that people who don’t have solar by the end of 2016 will end up paying more for their system!

As an example, if you install a 5kW System, you're currently receiving a up-front discount of $3,914 (103 STC's x $38). As of January 1st 2017 this will go down to $3,648 (96 STC's x $38). So a 5kW System in 2017 will cost an extra $266.

Below is a table listing the STC's and up-front discount offered from 2017 to 2030 (based on STC price of $38)

The STC System is based on the assumption that the “lifetime” of your solar power system. As of the 1st January 2017, the maximum number of years you can claim as the “lifetime” of your system will be 14 years. 13 years from 1st January 2018. 12 years from January 2019 and so on until the 2028, when the rebate will be completely abolished.
